Why I love this trip

This is a trip for people who plan their holidays around the table. It crosses from southern Spain into Portugal, following the food from acorn-fed ham in the hills above Sevilla to oysters pulled straight from the Algarve’s tidal lagoon.

Then it slows right down in the Alentejo, a quiet region of cork forests, olive groves and family wineries that most visitors to Portugal never see, before finishing with a chef’s table in Lisbon.

  1. Day 1

    Sevilla

3 nights in the historic centre

Arrive and wander the lanes of the Santa Cruz quarter, then settle in for your first tapas dinner.

  2. Day 2

    Sevilla

A morning with a private guide through the Alcázar and the cathedral, a free afternoon, and an evening of flamenco and dinner in a centuries-old tavern.

  3. Day 3

    The Sierra de Aracena

A day in the hills at a family farm that raises the acorn-fed pigs behind jamón ibérico. Walk among the oaks, visit the aging cellars, and finish with a tasting and a long country lunch.

  4. Days 4 to 6

    The Algarve

    3 nights on the coast

Cross into Portugal for a seafood dinner overlooking the sea. Wade through the tidal flats of the Ria Formosa with an oyster farmer and taste them straight from the water, then spend the afternoon at the beach. The next day, cook the morning’s catch over fire with a local chef, using a traditional cataplana and coastal herbs, followed by a long lunch.

  5. Days 7 to 9

    The Alentejo

3 nights on a countryside estate

Ride on horseback through cork groves and olive estates, then dinner of black pork and regional bread. Spend a day as a winemaker, blending your own wine with the family who makes it, followed by a farm-to-table lunch of the estate’s own bread, olive oil and produce. Finish with a local guide in the cork forest and an afternoon in Évora’s walled old town and Roman temple.

  6. Day 10

    Lisbon

    1 night in the city

Arrive in the afternoon for a tasting menu at a Michelin-starred restaurant, including a visit to the chef’s kitchen.

  7. Day 11

    Fly home from Lisbon

A slow morning walk through the old Alfama neighbourhood before your flight.

Make it yours

This is a starting point, not a package.

I design every trip with trusted experts who live and work in the region, and I can change anything here: your dates, your pace, the hotels, or how long you stay in each place. Where I can, I’ll add preferred-partner perks like daily breakfast and hotel credits to your stays. Pricing depends on season and the hotels you choose, so I’ll prepare a personal proposal for you.
