Why I love this trip

If you travel to eat, Sri Lanka is extraordinary. This trip follows the island’s food from coconut groves to tea country to the streets of Colombo, with cooking lessons, home-cooked meals and tastings along the way.

In between, there are ancient cities, one of the world’s great train rides and a stretch of quiet southern coastline.

  1. Day 1

    Fly to Colombo

  2. Day 2

    A coconut estate near Negombo

1 night on a working estate

Settle in on a coconut plantation and learn how toddy is tapped from the trees.

  3. Days 3 to 5

    The Cultural Triangle

3 nights in a rural hideaway

See the Dambulla cave temples, Sigiriya, Polonnaruwa and Anuradhapura. Visit a farm, have lunch at a food hall that supports rural women’s businesses, and sit down to a village-style dinner of many courses served on a leaf.

  4. Day 6

    Kandy

1 night in the hill capital

Walk the city with a local guide, tasting your way through the market, roadside snacks and bakeries.

  5. Days 7 to 9

    Tea country

    3 nights in the hills

Take the famous hill country train to Haputale, walk a section of the Pekoe Trail through the tea estates, and share lunch in the home of an estate worker’s family.

  6. Days 10 to 12

    The south coast

    3 nights by the sea

Slow down on a quieter stretch of coast, with a tea tour and single-estate tasting at a small grower in the hills behind.

  7. Days 13 to 14

    Galle

2 nights in the hills above the fort

Explore the old fort with a local guide, learn to make a proper rice and curry in a private cooking lesson, taste arrack, and find the best roti stalls in town.

  8. Days 15 to 16

    Colombo

2 nights in a boutique hotel

Tour the city by vintage Land Rover, eat street food in the old neighbourhoods, and try lamprais, a dish with Dutch Burgher roots.

  9. Day 17

    Fly home

Make it yours

This is a starting point, not a package.

I design every trip with trusted experts who live and work in the region, and I can change anything here: your dates, your pace, the hotels, or how long you stay in each place. Where I can, I’ll add preferred-partner perks like daily breakfast and hotel credits to your stays. Pricing depends on season and the hotels you choose, so I’ll prepare a personal proposal for you.

Ready when you are
